If you’re looking for a budget smartphone that packs a punch, the CMF Phone 2 Pro is worth checking out. After using it for four months, I can confidently say it’s a great value-for-money device. At just $279, you’re getting more than you’d expect, including unique camera features and some unusual perks that make it stand out in its price range.

Camera: Punching Above Its Weight

The camera setup on the CMF Phone 2 Pro is honestly impressive for its price. Photos are sharp, well-balanced, and vibrant, and the electronic image stabilization (EIS) does a solid job in both videos and stills.

One standout feature is the 2x telephoto lens—something you almost never see in this price range. In good lighting, it performs really well and gives you some extra versatility. Low-light performance, however, is where the camera shows its limits. The telephoto and ultrawide lenses struggle, and even the main sensor requires steady hands to get the best shot.

The ultrawide lens is quite basic and loses detail in dim conditions, but for day-to-day photography, the main and telephoto cameras more than make up for it. Video recording is another strong point, with EIS keeping footage smooth and watchable.

It feels sturdy and unique, with a design that’s functional without feeling cheap. The modular approach adds a fun, customizable element that’s rare in budget smartphones.

Display: Smooth and Bright

The phone features a bright 120Hz screen, making scrolling and general use feel smooth and responsive. HDR+ content is available on YouTube only, and HDR10+ playback is also restricted to the same platform.

While the display isn’t groundbreaking, it’s solid for a $279 phone. Watching videos, browsing the web, or gaming feels enjoyable thanks to the smooth refresh rate and bright panel.

Battery Life: Decent but Not Exceptional

Battery life is okay, but it doesn’t match some of the newer 2025 smartphones that come with 6000–6500mAh batteries. Under moderate usage, it easily lasts a full day, but heavy users might find themselves needing a top-up by evening.

Audio: Room for Improvement

The speaker performance leaves something to be desired. It’s a mono speaker with low maximum volume, and distortion occurs at high levels. If you enjoy music or videos without headphones, this is a noticeable compromise.

Everyday Performance: Smooth for Most Tasks

Browsing the internet, using social media, and streaming content all work smoothly on this device. Apps open quickly, and multitasking is decent. Gaming is playable at moderate settings, though heavy gaming can cause slight heating.

The modular design also adds a practical edge for content creators, allowing extra lenses or grips to improve photography or videography.

The CMF Phone 2 Pro is one of the best value-for-money smartphones of 2025. For just $279, you get a modular design, impressive cameras, a bright 120Hz screen, and some genuinely unique perks.
